Pics from Tokyo (mostly chronological, including some at the end from return to Tokyo)
Pikachu!
Small bus
Sometimes when it's been a long weekend, you're just too tired to pick up the beer.
Colorful chairs.
I tried to capture the slope, but turns out that's hard to do! The last 400' of elevation is this right here. Quads were burning going up!
Basement bar with some craft beers.
Toothbrush and tiny toothpaste provided at every place we stayed. Very convenient!
10 Yen (we didn't know how much it was at first because these didn't have any numbers on them)
This coffee wakes you up, as your business partner.
But you say it's just a friend
Vending machines everywhere.
We picked each others' drinks from the vending machine. Thanks for the Salt & Fruit, Matt.
Tsukiji Fish Market
So much styrofoam
Turns out you can't enter the fish market until 9am, and we were waaaaay early (thanks time change), so we went in search of some raw fish to eat instead of view.
Looks awesome.
We'll take 3 lines I guess?
Nice old lady in charge of the three (or four!) lines gave us an umbrella for the sun! ...which is good because it was extremely hot at 8-9am when we were waiting in line for our first of many raw fish dishes.
soon to be our spot to sit, hurry up!
First raw fish meal in Japan! Excellent.
These stand-up motor-carts were all over Tsukiji Fish Market, zipping around haphazardly. I don't know how we managed to avoid getting hit.
Drunk person is not allowed to enter! Apparently they're not allowed to sit in cartons of apples, which I'd think is pretty easy to avoid since it's a fish market. Not sure we saw an apple in the whole place.
Left image accurately depicts the dangers of those motor-carts.
Thought this was chicken. It was... but only the skin. At least I didn't get liver like Matt!
Fish head, probably about a foot diameter.
Giant crabs
Massive fish (tuna, I think), probably as big around as me.
Same fish, tried to get a sense of scale.
Big squids. That's a normal size cooler.
Silly tourist taking pictures of ducks.
Just hanging out in the middle of a bunch of modern office buildings.
Across the street from previous building...
Welcome to the Sexy Zone
Apparently this is where you get your singing hens. Specifically the kind that have swallowed TVs whole.
They have payphones!
They laughed at me for taking a picture of the payphone...
Matcha tea latte (green) and a coffee. The matcha latte was good but what I really needed was a gallon of water thanks to the heat.
Excellent work, marketing department.
Massive birds. We didn't want to get any closer.
They noticed us! Run!
Caroline
Cool office space. Picture ruined by glare, oh well.
70% alcohol? 100% ALCOHOL?? All I know is it was 7eleven brand beer. And that they don't have laws against drinking beer on the street in public.
I opened up my eyes and saw the sign. ....
....Actually signs. Everywhere. Ace of Base almost got it right.
Rare shot of the wild tourist in his natural habitat.
Apparently Logitech is called Logicool there?
Clever name for (presumably) a bar.
Signs going all the way up buildings were everywhere. Probably got some better pics of these later (Hiroshima comes to mind...).
OMG
Getting artsy with the fancy camera. If I knew what I was doing maybe I could've had it focus on the Japanese whiskey (any of the five bottles farthest away).
